The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Rain” it comes from the Hebrew Word “matar” which means “rain.”
Zechariah promises the Lord will regather and strengthen His scattered people like a mighty flock. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Zechariah 10.
Zechariah urges them to ask of the Lord “rain,” “matar” in Hebrew, in the time of the latter rain, so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field, warning the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams, they comforting in vain, therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.
Zechariah records the Lord’s anger being kindled against the shepherds, and He will punish the goats, for the Lord of hosts has visited His flock the house of Judah, and has made them as His goodly horse in the battle, out of him coming forth the corner, out of him the nail, out of him the battle bow, out of him every oppressor together, and they shall be as mighty men, who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle, and they shall fight, because the Lord is with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.
Zechariah records the Lord’s promise to strengthen the house of Judah, and He will save the house of Joseph, and He will bring them again to place them, for He has mercy upon them, and they shall be as though He had not cast them off, for He is the Lord their God, and will hear them, Ephraim being like a mighty man, and their heart rejoicing as through wine, their children also seeing it, and being glad, their heart rejoicing in the Lord, closing with a magnificent promise that He will hiss for them, and gather them, for He has redeemed them, and they shall increase as they have increased, He will sow them among the people, and they shall remember Him in far countries, and they shall live with their children, and turn again, this beautiful vision of scattered exiles gathered together as one unified, thriving nation.
Zechariah’s pastoral imagery, describing scattered Israel as sheep without a genuine shepherd, contrasted against the Lord’s promise to personally visit and strengthen His flock, conveys genuine divine compassion for a people long led astray by false leadership. His closing promise of gathering exiles from far countries who will remember Him and return offers enduring hope for genuine restoration reaching beyond even Zechariah’s own immediate historical moment.
