REVELATION 22 ‐ “Surely I Come Quickly”

Bible Chapter Reviews

The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Water” it comes from the Greek Word “hydor” which means “water.”

The Bible closes with a vision of the river of life and Christ’s promise of imminent return. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Revelation 22.

John describes being shown a pure river of “water,” “hydor” in Greek, of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, being the tree of life, which bore twelve manner of fruits, yielding her fruit every month, and the leaves of the tree being for the healing of the nations, and there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. John describes how they shall see His face, and His name shall be in their foreheads, and there shall be no night there, and they need no candle, neither light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light, and they shall reign forever and ever, the angel telling him these sayings are faithful and true, and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly be done, Christ declaring, “Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book,” John falling down to worship before the feet of the angel, but being told not to, since he is his fellow servant, urging him instead to worship God. John is told not to seal the sayings of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand, letting him who is unjust be unjust still, and him who is filthy be filthy still, and him who is righteous be righteous still, and him who is holy be holy still, Christ declaring, “Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last,” pronouncing blessed those who do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city, the Spirit and the bride saying, “Come,” and whoever hears saying, “Come,” and whoever is athirst, letting him come, and whoever will, letting him take the water of life freely, closing with a solemn warning against adding to or taking away from this book, and Christ’s final promise, “Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus,” this remarkable final chapter, and with it the entire Bible, closing with the benediction, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”

This magnificent closing chapter’s beautiful river of life and healing tree offer a stunning final image of complete restoration, echoing and even surpassing Eden’s original beauty at the very close of Scripture’s entire, sweeping narrative. Christ’s repeated promise, surely I come quickly, provides this entire remarkable book’s fitting, urgent conclusion, calling every reader across every generation toward genuine, expectant hope and faithful readiness for His certain, promised return.
