The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Holy” it comes from the Hebrew Word “qadosh” which means “holy.”
The psalmist celebrates God’s holiness and His faithful answers to those who called upon Him. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Psalm 99.
The psalmist declares the Lord reigns; let the people tremble. He sits between the cherubim; let the earth be moved. The Lord is great in Zion, and He is high above all the people. He urges everyone to praise His great and terrible name, for it is “holy” (“qadosh” in Hebrew).
The psalmist describes the king’s strength also loving judgment. God has established equity, executing judgment and righteousness in Jacob. He urges everyone to exalt the Lord their God, and worship at His footstool, for He is holy. He recalls Moses and Aaron among His priests, and Samuel among those who call upon His name. They called upon the Lord, he says, and He answered them.
The psalmist describes how God spoke to them in the cloudy pillar, and they kept His testimonies, and the ordinance He gave them, hearing them. He was a God who forgave them, though He took vengeance on their inventions. He closes with a threefold call to exalt the Lord their God, and worship at His holy hill, for the Lord their God is holy. This repeated emphasis on holiness binds the entire psalm together as a sustained meditation on God’s unique, awe-inspiring purity and majesty.
This psalm repeats God’s holiness three times, structuring the entire poem around this single, central theme. It emphasizes just how central and defining this particular attribute is, for understanding His entire character and reign. It recalls Moses, Aaron, and Samuel as examples of those who called upon God and received real answers. It offers concrete historical precedent for confident, expectant prayer, directed toward this same holy, faithful God.
