The psalmist calls everyone to sing to the Lord a new song, since He has done marvellous things, His right hand and His holy arm have gotten Him the “victory,” “yeshuah” in Hebrew, the Lord having made known His salvation, His righteousness openly showing in the sight of the heathen.
The psalmist describes how He has remembered His mercy and His truth toward the house of Israel, all the ends of the earth having seen the salvation of their God, urging all the earth to make a joyful noise to the Lord, breaking forth into joyous song and singing praise, singing to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the voice of a psalm.
The psalmist calls for trumpets and the sound of the cornet to make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King, letting the sea roar, and the fullness thereof, the world, and those who dwell in it, letting the floods clap their hands, and the hills be joyful together before the Lord, since He comes to judge the earth, with righteousness shall He judge the world, and the people with equity, a joyful, musical psalm celebrating salvation made known to every corner of the earth.
This psalm’s call for instruments, trumpets, harps, and cornets alongside voices reveals worship as a genuinely full-bodied, multi-sensory celebration rather than merely quiet, contemplative reflection alone.
