The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Regard” it comes from the Hebrew Word “bin” which means “to understand, perceive.”
The psalmist appeals to God as the ultimate judge against arrogant, oppressive wrongdoers. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Psalm 94.
The psalmist calls on the Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs, to shine forth, asking Him, the judge of the earth, to lift up Himself, and render a reward to the proud, asking how long the wicked shall triumph, uttering hard things, all the workers of iniquity boasting themselves.
The psalmist describes how they break in pieces God’s people, and afflict His heritage, slaying the widow and the stranger, and murdering the fatherless, saying the Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob “regard,” “bin” in Hebrew, urging his fellow brutish people to understand, and fools to be wise, asking whether He who planted the ear shall not hear, or He who formed the eye shall not see.
The psalmist declares blessed is the man God chastens, and teaches out of His law, that He may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked, since the Lord will not cast off His people, nor forsake His inheritance, judgment returning to righteousness, and all the upright in heart following it, asking who will rise up for him against the evildoers, declaring that unless the Lord had been his help, his soul had almost dwelt in silence, but when he thought his foot slipped, God’s mercy held him up, His comforts delighting his soul, closing with confidence that the Lord will bring upon the wicked their own iniquity, and cut them off in their own wickedness.
This psalm’s confrontation of those who arrogantly assume God does not truly see or care about injustice offers a sharp, direct challenge to any assumption that wickedness can operate entirely unnoticed or unaccountable. Its confident affirmation that the Lord will not cast off His people, especially during genuinely difficult days of adversity, provides real, grounded comfort for anyone currently facing sustained, seemingly unanswered oppression.
