PSALMS 7 ‐ “David’s Plea for Justice”

Bible Chapter Reviews

The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Judgment” it comes from the Hebrew Word “mishpat” which means “judgment, justice.”

David asks God to judge between himself and those falsely accusing him. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Psalm 7.

David declares his trust in the Lord his God, asking Him to save him from all who persecute him, and deliver him, lest they tear his soul like a lion, ripping it in pieces while there is none to deliver, protesting that if he has done this, if there is iniquity in his hands, if he has rewarded evil to the one at peace with him, then let the enemy persecute his soul and take it.

David asks the Lord to arise in His anger, lift up Himself because of the rage of his enemies, and awake for him to the “judgment,” “mishpat” in Hebrew, He has commanded, so the congregation of the people would compass Him about, judging the peoples, since the Lord judges the righteous, and His righteousness tests the hearts and reins.

David describes God as a righteous judge, angry with the wicked every day, and if a man does not turn, He will whet His sword, bending His bow and making it ready, describing how the wicked travails with iniquity, conceives mischief, and brings forth falsehood, making a pit and digging it, falling into the ditch he made, his mischief returning upon his own head, and his violent dealing coming down upon his own pate, closing with a vow to praise the Lord according to His righteousness, and sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.

David’s willingness to invite God’s judgment upon himself if he has genuinely wronged his enemy shows remarkable confidence in his own innocence combined with real humility before God’s perfect justice. His vivid image of the wicked falling into the very pit they dug for others offers timeless assurance that ultimate justice, however delayed, remains fundamentally reliable.
