PSALMS 66 ‐ “Come and See the Works of God”

Bible Chapter Reviews

The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Tried” it comes from the Hebrew Word “tsaraph” which means “to refine, test.”

The psalmist invites all the earth to witness God’s powerful deeds and answered prayer. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Psalm 66.

The psalmist calls all the earth to make a joyful noise to God, sing forth the honor of His name, make His praise glorious, saying to God, “How terrible art thou in thy works!” through the greatness of His power His enemies submitting themselves to Him, all the earth worshiping Him, and singing to His name.

The psalmist invites everyone to come and see the works of God, terrible in His doing toward the children of men, turning the sea into dry land, going through the flood on foot, rejoicing in Him there, remembering He tries the sons of men as silver is “tried,” “tsaraph” in Hebrew, bringing them into the net, laying affliction upon their loins, causing men to ride over their heads, through fire and water, yet bringing them out into a wealthy place.

The psalmist promises to go into God’s house with burnt offerings, paying his vows, uttered when he was in trouble, offering sacrifices and declaring, “Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul,” describing how he cried to Him with his mouth, and He was extolled with his tongue, but if he regards iniquity in his heart, the Lord will not hear him, yet truly God has heard him, and attended to the voice of his prayer, closing with a blessing, “Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.”

This psalmist’s invitation to come and hear what God has done for my soul models genuine, personal testimony as a powerful form of worship, inviting others to witness real answered prayer rather than merely abstract theological claims. Its honest acknowledgment that regarding iniquity in the heart hinders prayer offers important, practical wisdom about the genuine connection between personal integrity and effective communication with God.
