The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Life” it comes from the Hebrew Word “chayyim” which means “life.”
This companion psalm celebrates the king’s joy in the strength and blessing God has provided. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Psalm 21.
The psalm declares that the king shall joy in the Lord’s strength, and in His salvation how greatly he shall rejoice, since He has given him his heart’s desire, and has not withheld the request of his lips, going before him with the blessings of goodness, and setting a crown of pure gold on his head.
The psalm describes how the king asked “life,” “chayyim” in Hebrew, of the Lord, and He gave it to him, even length of days forever and ever, his glory being great in God’s salvation, honor and majesty being laid upon him, since God has made him most blessed forever, and made him exceeding glad with His countenance, because the king trusts in the Lord, and through the mercy of the Most High he shall not be moved.
The psalm closes describing how the king’s hand shall find out all his enemies, his right hand finding out those who hate him, since the Lord shall swallow them up in His wrath, and fire shall devour them, their descendants being destroyed from the earth, urging the Lord to be exalted in His own strength, promising that the people will sing and praise His power, a fitting companion piece to the previous psalm, moving from prayer for the king to celebration of God’s answer to that very prayer.
This psalm’s celebration of the king’s joy specifically rooted in trusting the Lord, rather than in his own achievements or military strength, reinforces the same theological priority found throughout this entire collection. Read together with the preceding psalm, these two poems model a complete cycle of genuine faith, earnest petition followed by grateful, confident praise once God has answered.
