The psalmist declares, “Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications,” asking if the Lord should mark iniquities, who could stand, yet there is forgiveness with Him, that He may be “feared,” “yare” in Hebrew.
The psalmist describes waiting for the Lord, his soul waiting, and in His word he hopes, his soul waiting for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning.
The psalmist urges Israel to hope in the Lord, since with Him is mercy, and with Him is plenteous redemption, closing with confident assurance, “And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities,” a brief but profound psalm moving from the depths of genuine despair toward confident hope in God’s abundant, complete redemption.
