The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Compassion” it comes from the Greek Word “splagchnizomai” which means “to be moved with deep compassion.”

Jesus returns to His hometown of Nazareth, where the people, familiar with His family, take offense at Him. Jesus notes that “a prophet is not without honour, but in his own country,” and, because of their unbelief, He can do no mighty work there except heal a few sick people, and He marvels at their unbelief. Jesus sends out the twelve in pairs, giving them power over unclean spirits, instructing them to travel light and depend on the hospitality of those who receive them.
Mark then recounts how Herod had John the Baptist beheaded, manipulated by his wife Herodias after her daughter’s dance pleased him at a birthday feast, a sorrowful detour that also explains why Herod later fears Jesus might be John raised from the dead. The apostles return from their mission and report all they had done, and Jesus invites them to a quiet place to rest, since so many were coming and going that they had no leisure even to eat.
The crowd follows anyway, and Jesus, moved with compassion, “splagchnizomai” in Greek, sees them as sheep without a shepherd and teaches them at length. As evening comes and the disciples urge Him to send the hungry crowd away, Jesus instead has them sit in groups, and with five loaves and two fish, blesses and multiplies the food to feed about five thousand men, with twelve baskets left over. That night, Jesus sends His disciples ahead by boat and comes to them walking on the sea, saying, “Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid,” and the wind ceases as He climbs into the boat, leaving the disciples utterly astonished.
Jesus poured out compassion on the crowd all day, taught them, fed them, and still made time that same night to walk across the sea and reassure His frightened disciples. His compassion had room for both the multitude’s needs and His closest followers’ fear, all within a single exhausting day.
