The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Fear” it comes from the Hebrew Word “mora” which means “fear, dread.”

Isaiah is instructed to take a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz, describing how before the child shall have knowledge to cry, “My father, and my mother,” the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria, the Lord speaking of the waters of Shiloah that go softly, warning that because this people refuses them, and rejoices in Rezin and Remaliah’s son, the Lord will bring up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory.
Isaiah urges his readers, “Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces… Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us,” urging them not to fear what this people fears, nor be afraid, but to sanctify the Lord of hosts Himself, and let Him be their “fear,” “mora” in Hebrew, and let Him be their dread, and He shall be for a sanctuary, but for a stone of stumbling and rock of offence to both the houses of Israel.
Isaiah describes binding up the testimony, and sealing the law among his disciples, waiting upon the Lord, who hides His face from the house of Jacob, and looking for Him, urging that when they say to seek unto those who have familiar spirits, and unto wizards who peep and mutter, should not a people seek unto their God, to the law and to the testimony, since if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them, closing with a description of distress and darkness, dimness of anguish, driven to darkness, this chapter’s central affirmation, God is with us, offering genuine assurance amid genuinely threatening political circumstances.
Isaiah’s declaration, God is with us, echoing the very meaning of Immanuel from the previous chapter, offers genuine confidence that transforms fear of powerful earthly enemies into settled trust in God’s greater, sovereign protection. His warning against seeking guidance from mediums and wizards rather than God’s own law and testimony reminds every generation that genuine wisdom is found in returning to established truth rather than chasing after alternative, unreliable sources.
