Ezekiel’s tour continues, measuring chambers reserved specifically for the ministering priests. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Ezekiel 42.
Ezekiel describes being brought forth into the outer court, the way toward the north, and being brought into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north, describing its length being a hundred cubits, and its width fifty cubits, describing “galleries,” “atiq” in Hebrew, one over another, three stories, and before the chambers a walk of ten cubits width.
Ezekiel describes the priests’ chambers being in a specific location, toward the north, and there being a separation before them, describing how these chambers are holy, where the priests who approach the Lord shall eat the most holy things, there they shall lay the most holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering, for the place is holy, describing how when the priests enter, they shall not go out of the holy place into the outer court, but there they shall lay their garments in which they minister, for they are holy, and shall put on other garments, and then approach that which is for the people.
Ezekiel closes this section describing him measuring the outer court, the length being a hundred cubits, and the width a hundred cubits, foursquare, with the wall round about, its length being five hundred reeds, and its width five hundred, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place, this careful measurement of dedicated priestly space reinforcing the vision’s consistent concern for maintaining clear, appropriate distinctions between what is genuinely holy and what remains common, ordinary space.
