The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Heard” it comes from the Hebrew Word “shama” which means “to hear, to listen and respond.”

A Levite woman hides her newborn son for three months, then places him in an ark of bulrushes among the reeds of the river when she can no longer conceal him. Pharaoh’s own daughter finds the baby, has compassion on him, and unknowingly hires his own mother to nurse him. She names him Moses, “because I drew him out of the water.” He grows up in Pharaoh’s household, raised with every privilege of Egyptian royalty.
As a grown man, Moses sees an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, and, looking around to make sure no one is watching, kills the Egyptian and hides his body in the sand. When Pharaoh learns of it, Moses flees to the land of Midian, where he defends the daughters of a priest named Reuel, also called Jethro, at a well. Moses settles there, marries Jethro’s daughter Zipporah, and has a son.
Years pass, and the king of Egypt dies, but the Israelites’ bondage continues. They cry out, and “God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.” The Hebrew word for heard is “shama,” meaning to hear and respond with action. “God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.”
Moses spent forty years as a prince and forty more as a shepherd in obscurity, seemingly far from any grand calling. Yet the entire time, God was watching Israel’s suffering and preparing exactly the right person for exactly the right moment. Long seasons of waiting are rarely wasted in God’s hands.
