The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Locusts” it comes from the Hebrew Word “arbeh” which means “locusts, a devastating swarm.”

God tells Moses that He has hardened Pharaoh’s heart specifically so that these signs can be told to future generations, “that ye may know how that I am the LORD.” Moses warns Pharaoh of a coming locust plague so severe it will cover the land and devour everything the hail left behind. Even Pharaoh’s own servants urge him, “How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God.” Pharaoh nearly relents, but insists only the men may go, refusing the women and children, so Moses and Aaron are driven from his presence.
The locusts, “arbeh” in Hebrew, arrive in an overwhelming swarm, covering the face of the whole earth and devouring every remaining plant. Pharaoh urgently calls for Moses and Aaron, confesses his sin again, and begs for the plague to be lifted. A strong west wind carries the locusts into the Red Sea, but once again, God hardens Pharaoh’s heart, and he refuses to let Israel go.
God then sends a thick, tangible darkness over Egypt for three days, so heavy that people cannot see one another or leave their homes, “but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.” Pharaoh offers yet another partial compromise, allowing the people to go but demanding their flocks and herds remain behind. Moses refuses these terms entirely, insisting that not a hoof will be left behind, since they do not yet know exactly what they will need to worship the Lord. Enraged, Pharaoh warns Moses never to appear before him again, threatening death if he does.
Pharaoh kept offering compromises instead of full obedience, holding back the women, the children, or the livestock each time. Half-hearted surrender was never going to satisfy what God required. Complete obedience, not a negotiated middle ground, was always the actual instruction.
