The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Chosen” it comes from the Hebrew Word “bachar” which means “to choose, to select.”

Moses commands Israel to completely destroy the nations they will encounter in Canaan, forbidding any covenant or intermarriage with them, since these relationships would inevitably turn Israel’s hearts away to serve other gods. He instructs them instead to destroy the pagan altars, images, and groves belonging to these nations entirely, since Israel is “an holy people unto the LORD thy God.”
Moses explains God’s reasoning for choosing Israel in the first place. “The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers.” The Hebrew word for choose here is “bachar.” Israel’s selection was rooted entirely in God’s own faithful love and prior promise, not in anything impressive about the nation itself.
Moses reassures Israel that God, described as “the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy,” will show them the same kind of decisive victory they witnessed in Egypt, driving out these nations gradually rather than all at once, so the land does not become desolate. He urges them not to fear these nations, but to remember specifically what God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt, since the same God who accomplished that will surely fight for them again.
God’s choice of Israel had nothing to do with their size, strength, or impressiveness. If anything, Moses emphasizes the opposite, they were the smallest of all peoples. Their selection was rooted entirely in God’s own faithful love and an ancient promise, a reminder that being chosen by God has never depended on human merit.
