1 JOHN 1 ‐ “That Which We Have Seen and Heard”

Bible Chapter Reviews

The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Life” it comes from the Greek Word “zoe” which means “life.”

John writes as an eyewitness, declaring genuine fellowship with God and one another. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is 1 John 1.

John declares that which was from the beginning, which they have heard, which they have seen with their eyes, which they have looked upon, and their hands have handled, of the Word of “life,” “zoe” in Greek, this life being manifested, and they have seen it, and bear witness, and show to them that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested to them.

John declares he writes so that they too may have fellowship with them, and truly their fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ, writing these things that their joy may be full, describing the message they have heard of Him, and declare to them, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all, if they say they have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, they lie, and do not the truth.

John declares that if they walk in the light, as He is in the light, they have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses them from all sin, if they say they have no sin, they deceive themselves, and the truth is not in them, but if they confess their sins, He is faithful and just to forgive them their sins, and to cleanse them from all unrighteousness, closing with the observation that if they say they have not sinned, they make Him a liar, and His word is not in them.

John’s emphasis on genuine, firsthand eyewitness testimony, having seen, heard, and touched the Word of life, grounds this letter’s teaching in real, historical experience rather than mere theoretical speculation. His famous promise, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us, offers genuine, ongoing assurance that honest confession consistently brings real cleansing rather than continued guilt or shame.
