The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Bread” it comes from the Hebrew Word “lechem” which means “bread.”
Isaiah offers a beautiful, open invitation to abundant life while celebrating God’s higher ways. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Isaiah 55.
Isaiah delivers a beautiful, open invitation, “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not “bread,” “lechem” in Hebrew, “and your labour for that which satisfieth not?” urging them to hearken diligently, and let their soul delight itself in fatness.
Isaiah urges them to seek the Lord while He may be found, calling upon Him while He is near, letting the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts, returning to the Lord, who will have mercy on him, and to their God, for He will abundantly pardon, declaring famously, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah compares God’s word to rain and snow coming down from heaven, not returning there again, but watering the earth, making it bring forth and bud, giving seed to the sower, and bread to the eater, so shall His word be that goes forth out of His mouth, it shall not return to Him void, but shall accomplish that which He pleases, and shall prosper in the thing for which He sent it, closing with a joyful promise, “For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands,” a fitting, beautiful close to this section of Isaiah’s prophecy, moving from suffering through restoration toward genuine, universal celebration.
Isaiah’s beautiful invitation, come to the waters, buy wine and milk without money and without price, offers genuine grace freely available regardless of any prior earning or accomplishment, undermining every human system of merit-based transaction. His comparison of God’s word to rain that reliably accomplishes its purpose offers real confidence that faithful proclamation of truth genuinely produces its intended effect rather than simply disappearing into the void.
