Solomon describes wisdom crying, and understanding putting forth her voice, standing at the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths, crying at the gates, at the entry of the city, urging simple ones to understand wisdom, and fools to be of an understanding heart, since her mouth shall speak truth, and wickedness being an abomination to her lips, all the words of her mouth being in righteousness, nothing froward or perverse in them.
Wisdom declares her “fruit,” “peri” in Hebrew, is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and her revenue than choice silver, walking in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment, causing those who love her to inherit substance, filling their treasures, declaring, “The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was,” describing her presence with God when He established the heavens, set a compass upon the face of the depth, and gave the sea its decree, being daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in the habitable part of His earth, and her delights being with the sons of men.
Wisdom urges her children to hearken to her, blessed being those who keep her ways, hearing instruction and being wise, refusing it not, blessed being the man who hears her, watching daily at her gates, waiting at the posts of her doors, since whoever finds her finds life, and shall obtain favor from the Lord, but he who sins against her wrongs his own soul, all those who hate her loving death, this remarkable chapter personifying wisdom as present with God even before creation itself began, closely rejoicing alongside Him in His creative work.
