The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Covenant blood” it comes from the Hebrew Word “dam habberith” which means “the blood of the covenant.”

God calls Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders of Israel to come up the mountain and worship from a distance, while Moses alone approaches the Lord directly. Moses first comes down and tells the people all the words and judgments of the Lord, and the people respond with one voice, “All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.” Moses writes down all these words, rises early the next morning, and builds an altar with twelve pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel.
Young men offer burnt offerings and peace offerings of oxen, and Moses takes half the blood and sprinkles it on the altar. He then reads the book of the covenant aloud to the people, who again respond, “All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient.” Moses takes the remaining blood and sprinkles it on the people themselves, declaring, “Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.” The Hebrew phrase for this covenant blood is “dam habberith,” binding the people formally and physically to the promise they had just spoken. Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders go up the mountain and remarkably see the God of Israel, with something like a paved work of sapphire stone under His feet, yet God does not lay His hand on these leaders of Israel, and they eat and drink together in His presence. God then calls Moses further up the mountain alone to receive tablets of stone with the law and commandments written on them. Moses ascends into the cloud covering the mountain, where the glory of the Lord appears like a devouring fire, and Moses remains there forty days and forty nights.
Israel’s covenant with God was sealed not just with words, but with blood, a vivid, physical reminder of how serious and binding this relationship truly was. Long before the New Testament speaks of Jesus’ own blood sealing a new covenant, this scene at Sinai establishes the pattern, real relationship with God, sealed through sacrifice.
