The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Stand still” it comes from the Hebrew Word “yatsab” which means “to stand firm, to take one’s stand.”

God deliberately directs Israel to camp in a position that appears trapped, “entangled in the land,” specifically so that Pharaoh will pursue them and God can gain glory over Pharaoh and his army, so that Egypt will know that He is the Lord. Sure enough, Pharaoh’s heart hardens once more, and he pursues Israel with six hundred chosen chariots and his entire army. Seeing the Egyptians approaching, the terrified Israelites cry out against Moses, saying it would have been better to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.
Moses responds with remarkable confidence. “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD… The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” The Hebrew phrase for standing firm here is “yatsab.” The pillar of cloud moves behind Israel, standing between them and the Egyptian army, giving light to Israel while bringing darkness to Egypt through the entire night.
God tells Moses to stretch out his rod over the sea, and the Lord causes the sea to divide by a strong east wind all that night, turning the seabed into dry ground with walls of water on either side. Israel crosses safely through the middle of the sea. When the Egyptian army follows them into the seabed, God troubles their chariot wheels, and as morning comes, Moses stretches out his hand again, and the sea returns to its full depth, drowning Pharaoh’s entire army. Israel, seeing the dead Egyptians on the shore, fears the Lord and believes in Him and in His servant Moses.
Israel’s job in this crisis was not to fight or even to run. It was simply to stand still and trust God to act. Sometimes the most faithful response to an impossible situation is not frantic effort, but confident stillness, watching for exactly how God intends to deliver.
