David declares he will praise the Lord with his whole heart, before the gods he will sing praise to Him, worshiping toward His holy temple, and praising His name for His lovingkindness and for His truth, since He has magnified His word above all His name.
David declares that in the day when he cried, God answered him, and “strengthened,” “rahab” in Hebrew, him with strength in his soul, describing how all the kings of the earth shall praise the Lord, when they hear the words of His mouth, singing in the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord.
David declares that though the Lord is high, He has respect to the lowly, but the proud He knows from a distance, promising that though he walks in the midst of trouble, God will revive him, stretching forth His hand against the wrath of his enemies, and His right hand shall save him, closing with confident assurance, “The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.”
David’s confident closing declaration, the Lord will perfect that which concerns me, expresses genuine trust that God’s ongoing care extends specifically and personally to every detail of his own particular circumstances, not merely broad, general providence. This psalm’s observation that God has respect for the lowly while knowing the proud only from a distance offers real comfort for anyone who feels genuinely small or insignificant before Him.
