The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Praised” it comes from the Hebrew Word “halal” which means “to praise.”
This joyful psalm celebrates God’s willingness to lift up the lowly and the barren. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Psalm 113.
The psalmist calls the servants of the Lord to praise Him, praising the name of the Lord, blessed being the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore, from the rising of the sun to its going down, the Lord’s name being “praised,” “halal” in Hebrew.
The psalmist declares the Lord is high above all nations, and His glory above the heavens, asking who is like the Lord their God, who dwells on high, humbling Himself to behold the things done in heaven and in the earth, raising up the poor out of the dust, and lifting the needy out of the dunghill.
The psalmist describes how God sets the poor with princes, even with the princes of His people, making the barren woman keep house, and be a joyful mother of children, praising the Lord, a brief but beautiful psalm celebrating God’s remarkable willingness to reach down and lift up those the world would otherwise overlook or dismiss entirely.
This brief psalm’s celebration of God lifting the poor from the dust and giving the barren woman a joyful household reveals His particular attentiveness toward exactly those circumstances the world often considers hopeless or without value. Its opening and closing focus on praise, from sunrise to sunset, models continuous, all-day gratitude rather than worship confined to a single, isolated moment.
