David declares that praise waits for God in Zion, and unto Him the vow shall be performed, since He hears prayer, unto Him shall all flesh come, iniquities prevailing against him, but as for their transgressions, God shall purge them away, blessed being the man God chooses and causes to approach unto Him, that he may dwell in His courts.
David describes God as the God of their “salvation,” “yeshuah” in Hebrew, who is the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them far off upon the sea, setting fast the mountains, being girded with power, stilling the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.
David describes God’s abundant provision throughout creation, visiting the earth and watering it, greatly enriching it with the river of God full of water, preparing corn once He has so provided for it, watering the ridges abundantly, settling the furrows, making it soft with showers, blessing the springing thereof, crowning the year with His goodness, and His paths dropping fatness, the pastures being clothed with flocks, and the valleys covered over with corn, everything shouting for joy and singing, a beautiful psalm connecting spiritual forgiveness with generous, abundant physical provision throughout nature.
This psalm’s beautiful movement from forgiveness of sin to abundant agricultural blessing suggests a meaningful connection between spiritual restoration and genuine flourishing across every dimension of life, not merely the narrowly religious.
