The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Transgression” it comes from the Hebrew Word “pesha” which means “transgression, rebellion.”
David celebrates the relief of confessed sin after describing the misery of concealed guilt. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Psalm 32.
David declares blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered, blessed the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile, describing how when he kept silent, his bones grew old through his roaring all day long, God’s hand being heavy upon him day and night, his moisture turned into the drought of summer.
David describes his turning point, “I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my “transgressions,” “pesha” in Hebrew, “unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin,” urging everyone who is godly to pray to God while He may be found, so that in the floods of great waters they shall not come near him.
David declares God is his hiding place, preserving him from trouble, compassing him about with songs of deliverance, promising to instruct him and teach him in the way he should go, guiding him with His eye, warning not to be like the horse or mule without understanding, whose mouth must be held with bit and bridle, closing with the observation that many sorrows shall be to the wicked, but he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about, urging the righteous to be glad and rejoice in the Lord, and shout for joy, all who are upright in heart.
David’s vivid description of physical and emotional deterioration while concealing his sin, his bones wasting away through constant inner turmoil, illustrates how genuinely destructive unconfessed guilt can become when carried silently rather than honestly acknowledged. This psalm’s dramatic relief upon confession offers real hope that honest admission, however difficult, brings genuine freedom that concealment never could provide.
