David declares he will praise the Lord with his whole heart, showing forth all His marvellous works, being glad and rejoicing in Him, singing praise to His name, since his enemies are turned back, they fall and perish at His presence, for God has maintained his right and his cause, sitting on the throne judging right.
David describes how the Lord shall endure forever, having prepared His throne for “judgment,” “din” in Hebrew, and He shall judge the world in righteousness, ministering judgment to the people in uprightness, being a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble, and those who know His name will put their trust in Him, since the Lord has not forsaken those who seek Him.
David urges everyone to sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion, declaring His doings among the people, since He who makes inquisition for blood remembers them, and does not forget the cry of the humble, asking the Lord to have mercy upon him, considering his trouble from those who hate him, so he might show forth all His praise in the gates of Zion, rejoicing in His salvation, closing with confidence that the wicked shall be turned into hell, and all nations that forget God, since the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the expectation of the poor perish forever.
David’s wholehearted praise, offered specifically because God has maintained justice for the oppressed and remembered the cry of the humble, shows genuine worship flowing directly from confidence in God’s righteous character. This psalm’s closing assurance that the needy will not always be forgotten offers enduring hope to anyone currently experiencing injustice while waiting for God’s promised, ultimate vindication.
