The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Lies” it comes from the Hebrew Word “kazab” which means “lies, falsehood.”
David begins his day by bringing his requests directly and honestly before God. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Psalm 5.
David asks the Lord to give ear to his words, and consider his meditation, to hearken to the voice of his cry, his King and his God, since to Him he will pray, declaring, “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up,” a deliberate, daily discipline of bringing the day’s first thoughts before God.
David describes God’s holy character, that He is not a God who has pleasure in wickedness, nor shall evil dwell with Him, the foolish not standing in His sight, since He hates all workers of iniquity, and will destroy those who speak “leasing,” “kazab” in Hebrew, meaning lies, since the Lord abhors the bloody and deceitful man, while David himself, in the multitude of God’s mercy, will come into His house, and worship toward His holy temple in fear of Him.
David prays that God would lead him in His righteousness because of his enemies, making his way straight before his face, since there is no faithfulness in his enemies’ mouth, their inward part being very wickedness, their throat an open sepulchre, yet he prays that all who put their trust in God would rejoice, since He defends them, and those who love His name would be joyful in Him, closing with confidence that God will bless the righteous, and with favor compass them as with a shield.
David’s disciplined practice of directing his prayer to God each morning and then looking up expectantly models a healthy rhythm for beginning each day with intentional, honest communication rather than rushing into activity unprepared. His unflinching description of both God’s holiness and his enemies’ deceit shows that morning prayer can honestly address difficult realities rather than offering only comfortable, generic requests.
