The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Boils” it comes from the Hebrew Word “shechin” which means “boils, inflamed sores.”

Again the sons of God present themselves before the Lord, and Satan comes among them, and the Lord again points to Job’s continued integrity, noting he still holds fast his integrity, although Satan moved Him against him to destroy him without cause. Satan responds that skin for skin, a man will give everything he has for his own life, challenging God to touch Job’s bone and flesh, confident he would then curse God to His face.
The Lord permits this test as well, only sparing Job’s life, and Satan smites Job with painful “boils,” “shechin” in Hebrew, from the sole of his foot to his crown, so severe that Job takes a broken piece of pottery to scrape himself, sitting down among the ashes. Job’s own wife, seeing his condition, asks why he still holds fast his integrity, urging him to curse God and die, but Job rebukes her, calling her words foolish, asking whether they should receive good from God and not also receive evil, and in all this, Job does not sin with his lips.
When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite, hear of all the evil that has come upon him, they make an appointment together to come mourn with him and comfort him. When they see him from a distance, they barely recognize him, and lift up their voices and weep, tearing their robes and sprinkling dust on their heads toward heaven. They sit with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one speaks a word to him, since they see that his grief is very great, a lengthy, silent presence that precedes the extended dialogue about to unfold.
Job’s continued faithfulness even through devastating physical suffering, refusing his wife’s suggestion to curse God despite everything he has already lost, shows integrity that runs deeper than merely favorable circumstances. His friends’ initial seven days of silent presence, before they say anything at all, models a form of comfort easily overlooked, sometimes genuine support means simply being present rather than immediately offering explanations.
