2 CHRONICLES 3 ‐ “Building the Temple”

Bible Chapter Reviews

The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “House” it comes from the Hebrew Word “bayith” which means “house, temple.”

Construction finally begins on the exact spot where God once stopped Israel’s most devastating plague. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is 2 Chronicles 3.

Solomon begins building the “house,” “bayith” in Hebrew, of the Lord at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared to David his father, at the very place David had prepared on the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, the same location where the destroying angel’s hand had been stayed during the devastating plague following David’s census.

The temple’s dimensions are recorded precisely, sixty cubits long and twenty wide, with a porch extending across its front, its interior overlaid entirely with fine gold, carved with palm trees and chains, along with precious stones for beauty and gold from Parvaim. The most holy place, twenty cubits square, is overlaid with six hundred talents of fine gold, and two enormous cherubim of carved wood, overlaid with gold, stand within it, their combined wingspan stretching the full twenty cubits across the room.

The veil is made of blue, purple, crimson, and fine linen, woven with cherubim, and two great bronze pillars, named Jachin and Boaz, stand before the temple, each crowned with elaborate chapiters decorated with chains and pomegranates. This careful, detailed construction, spanning years of dedicated craftsmanship, finally brings to completion the magnificent house David had long dreamed of building for the Lord.

The temple’s location on the very threshingfloor where God’s judgment had once been mercifully stayed carries deep significance, a place of averted disaster becoming the permanent site of ongoing worship and atonement. This connection reminds readers that God’s dwelling place among His people was always rooted in mercy shown at humanity’s most desperate moment.
