The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Mystery” it comes from the Greek Word “mysterion” which means “a hidden truth now revealed.”

Paul instructs masters to give their servants what is just and fair, remembering they too have a Master in heaven. He urges believers to continue steadfastly in prayer, watching in it with thanksgiving, and asks specifically for prayer that God would open a door for the word, so he could speak the “mystery,” “mysterion” in Greek, of Christ, for which he is currently bound, that he might make it manifest as he ought to speak.
Paul urges believers to walk in wisdom toward outsiders, redeeming the time, letting their speech always be seasoned with grace, “as it were with salt,” so they may know how to answer every person appropriately. He commends Tychicus, who will bring news of Paul’s circumstances and comfort their hearts, along with Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, sending greetings from various companions, including Aristarchus, Marcus, and the physician Luke, described as “the beloved physician.”
Paul sends specific greetings to the church at Laodicea, instructing that this letter be read there as well, and that they in turn read the letter from Laodicea. He gives a specific word for Archippus, to take heed to fulfill the ministry he has received in the Lord. Paul closes writing this final salutation with his own hand, asking them to remember his chains, and closing with his familiar benediction, “Grace be with you. Amen.”
Paul’s instruction that speech should always be seasoned with grace, like salt, offers a practical, memorable image for how believers should communicate with those outside the faith. Even in his closing, ordinary logistics, greetings, requests, personal instructions, Paul consistently models the same gracious, others-focused character he has been describing throughout the entire letter.
