The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Renewed” it comes from the Greek Word “anakainoo” which means “to renew, to make new.”

Paul instructs believers, since they have been raised with Christ, to seek those things which are above, setting their affection on heavenly rather than earthly things, since their life is now hidden with Christ in God, and when Christ appears, they will also appear with Him in glory. He instructs them to put to death their earthly members, fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil desire, and covetousness, since these things bring God’s wrath, along with anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication, and lying.
Paul instructs believers to put off the old man with his deeds, and to put on “the new man,” “renewed,” “anakainoo” in Greek, in knowledge after the image of the One who created him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, bond nor free, but Christ is all and in all. He instructs them to put on, as God’s elect, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing one another and forgiving one another, “even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye,” and above all these things, to put on love, “which is the bond of perfectness.”
Paul instructs that the peace of God should rule in their hearts, and the word of Christ should dwell in them richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in their hearts to the Lord, doing everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God through Him. Paul then addresses specific household relationships, wives submitting to husbands, husbands loving their wives, children obeying parents, fathers not provoking their children, and servants obeying their masters with sincerity of heart, “as to the Lord, and not unto men,” working heartily since they serve the Lord Christ ultimately.
Paul’s instruction to put off the old self and put on the new isn’t merely about behavior modification, but about genuinely living out an identity already secured in Christ. The specific virtues he lists, kindness, patience, forgiveness, and above all love, describe exactly what that renewed identity actually looks like when lived out in ordinary daily relationships.
