The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Covenant” it comes from the Hebrew Word “beriyth” which means “a binding covenant.”

Moses reminds Israel of everything they personally witnessed in Egypt, the great trials, signs, and wonders, yet notes with striking honesty, “the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.” He recounts how God sustained them for forty years in the wilderness, their clothes not wearing out, and their recent victories over Sihon and Og, whose land has already been given to Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh.
Moses calls the entire nation, leaders, elders, officers, and every man, woman, child, stranger, and servant among them, to enter into this covenant, “beriyth” in Hebrew, and oath with the Lord their God, so that He may establish them as His people and be their God, exactly as He swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses warns solemnly against anyone whose heart secretly turns away to serve other nations’ gods, comparing such hidden rebellion to a root bearing bitter, poisonous fruit among them.
Moses warns that if Israel breaks this covenant, the resulting devastation of their land will be so severe that future generations, and even foreigners, will ask why the Lord did this to such a land, and the answer will be plain, “because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers.” Moses closes this section with a striking statement about the limits of human understanding. “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
Moses’ honest admission that Israel still lacked a heart to truly perceive, even after witnessing so many miracles, is a sobering reminder that seeing isn’t the same as understanding. Real transformation requires more than impressive experiences. It requires God Himself giving a heart capable of genuinely perceiving and responding to what has already been shown.
