The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Mystery” it comes from the Greek Word “mysterion” which means “a hidden truth now revealed.”

Paul describes himself as “the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,” explaining that God revealed to him by revelation “the mystery,” “mysterion” in Greek, previously hidden from earlier generations but now made known to His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit, that Gentiles would be “fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel.” Paul describes this grace given to him, the least of all saints, to preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone this mystery which had been hidden in God since the beginning of the world.
Paul explains that God’s wise, manifold purpose is displayed through the church itself, even to principalities and powers in heavenly places, “according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” He asks the Ephesians not to be discouraged by his sufferings for their sake, since it is actually their glory.
Paul then offers one of Scripture’s most beautiful prayers, bowing his knees to the Father, asking that believers would be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ would dwell in their hearts through faith, and that, rooted and grounded in love, they might comprehend with all saints the width, length, depth, and height of Christ’s love, “and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” He closes with a soaring doxology, praising God who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within believers, “unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
Paul’s prayer here reaches for something beyond mere knowledge, that believers would actually experience Christ’s love so fully it exceeds ordinary human comprehension. His closing doxology, praising a God able to do exceedingly above all we ask or think, remains one of the most confident, expansive descriptions of God’s power anywhere in Scripture.
