The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Correction” it comes from the Hebrew Word “musar” which means “correction, discipline.”

Zephaniah pronounces woe to the filthy and polluted city, to the oppressing city, she not obeying the voice, she not receiving “correction,” “musar” in Hebrew, she not trusting in the Lord, she not drawing near to her God, her princes within her being roaring lions, her judges being evening wolves, they not leaving the bones till the morrow, her prophets being light and treacherous persons, her priests having polluted the sanctuary, and done violence to the law.
Zephaniah declares the just Lord is in the midst of her, He will not do iniquity, every morning He brings His judgment to light, He fails not, but the unjust knows no shame, warning He has cut off the nations, their towers are desolate, He has made their streets waste, that none passes by, their cities being destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant, promising nonetheless that from beyond the rivers of Ethiopia His suppliants, even the daughter of His dispersed, shall bring His offering, in that day she shall not be ashamed for all her doings, for then He will take away out of the midst of her those who rejoice in her pride.
Zephaniah delivers this book’s magnificent closing promise, urging the daughter of Zion to sing, urging Israel to shout, urging the daughter of Jerusalem to be glad and rejoice with all the heart, for the Lord has taken away her judgments, He has cast out her enemy, the King of Israel, even the Lord, being in the midst of her, she shall not see evil any more, declaring, “The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing,” closing with a promise that at that time He will bring them again, even in the time that He gathers them, for He will make them a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when He turns back their captivity before their eyes.
Zephaniah’s astonishing closing image, the Lord Himself rejoicing over His people with singing, reveals a genuinely tender, joyful side of God’s character standing in striking contrast to this book’s earlier extensive warnings of sweeping judgment. This final promise, that God actively delights in and sings over His restored people rather than merely tolerating them, offers one of Scripture’s most intimate, affectionate pictures of God’s love for those who belong to Him.
