The Chosen Key Word in this Chapter is “Glory” it comes from the Hebrew Word “kabod” which means “glory, weighty visible presence.”
After seven days of preparation, Aaron finally begins his priestly ministry, and God responds in dramatic fashion. Welcome to Bible Life Basics Chapter Reviews, I am Chris and this is Leviticus 9.
On the eighth day, Moses calls Aaron, his sons, and the elders of Israel together. Aaron offers a calf as a sin offering for himself, and a ram as a burnt offering, exactly as commanded, following each step of blood application and fat burning precisely. He then offers the people’s offerings as well, a goat for a sin offering, a calf and lamb for burnt offerings, an ox and ram for peace offerings, and a grain offering, covering both himself and the entire congregation.
Aaron lifts his hands toward the people and blesses them, and then he and Moses go into the tabernacle of the congregation together, coming out afterward to bless the people once more. At that moment, “the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people.” The Hebrew word for this glory is “kabod,” describing God’s weighty, visible presence. Fire comes out from before the Lord and consumes the burnt offering and the fat on the altar, and when the people see it, “they shouted, and fell on their faces.”
This dramatic display confirms, in the most visible way possible, that God had genuinely accepted this entire system of worship Aaron had just carried out for the very first time. After months of detailed instructions and careful preparation stretching back through Exodus and now Leviticus, God’s own fire falling from heaven serves as unmistakable proof that His presence had truly come to dwell among His people through this priesthood and these offerings.
God’s fire falling to consume the offering was His own unmistakable seal of approval on everything Aaron had just done exactly as instructed. After so many chapters of detailed, careful preparation, this moment confirms that faithful obedience to God’s instructions, however tedious it may feel, genuinely matters to Him and receives His visible response.
