God details the law of the trespass offering, most holy, killed in the same place as the burnt offering, with its blood sprinkled around the altar and its fat burned as an offering made by fire. The priest who offers it receives its skin as his own portion, and the flesh belongs to the priests as most holy, to be eaten only in a holy place. The same principle applies to sin offerings, whichever priest makes atonement with the blood receives its flesh, though offerings whose blood is brought into the tabernacle itself must be burned rather than eaten.
Detailed instructions follow for the peace offering, distinguishing between a thanksgiving offering, accompanied by unleavened and leavened bread and eaten the same day it is offered, and a vow or voluntary offering, which may be eaten the following day as well, though anything remaining until the third day must be burned, since eating it then would make the offering an abomination that is not accepted. God repeats the prohibition against eating fat or blood as “a perpetual statute” throughout Israel’s generations, since both belonged specifically to the Lord.
